Membership
For the people accountable for a self-insured group
Membership is deliberately narrow. SIG National is built for administrators, the successors preparing to take over from them, the trustees and board members who carry the same duty from the other side of the table, and the TPAs and specialists who serve these programs closely enough to understand them.
Who it is for
Three roles, one working room
Administrators
The person accountable for the group — its members, its financial strength, its board relationship, and its regulator. You carry decisions that few people around you fully understand.
A good fit if you are
- Facing board, governance, or regulatory questions
- Weighing underwriting, claims, safety, or investment decisions
- Building the operating discipline the group has outgrown
Successors
The next administrator — named or emerging. The work of preparing you rarely fits into a job description, and the knowledge you need is mostly undocumented.
A good fit if you are
- Preparing to take over a group in the next one to five years
- Learning the parts of the role you have not yet owned
- Building relationships beyond your own organization
TPAs & service partners
The organizations that administer, advise, and serve self-insured groups, and want to understand the model more deeply than a vendor relationship allows.
A good fit if you are
- Serving multiple SIGs across states or lines
- Wanting direct exposure to how administrators actually decide
- Committed to being useful before being commercial
What membership includes
Access, knowledge, and people — in that order
The immediate promise is simple: expert support when the answer is not obvious, trusted peers who understand the role, and an ecosystem you can rely on.
Weekly working sessions
90-minute peer-led sessions built around live SIG challenges. Bring the problem you are actually working on.
The body of knowledge
Playbooks, frameworks, benchmarks, worksheets, and templates — a growing practical reference on building and running a SIG.
Direct access to the founders
Insurance and operating perspective from Stu Thompson; leadership, succession, and board perspective from Dr. John Sherk.
The member directory
Find the administrator who has already solved your problem — by state, by program size, by the issue in front of you.
Vetted partners
Specialists and partners selected for relevance, trust, and practical value across technology, investments, claims, governance, and leadership.
The succession system
A structured, do-it-yourself method to capture, transfer, and renew the knowledge that currently lives in one person's head.
The founding year
Help shape the community you wish had existed
We have a clear vision for what SIG National can become. We also know it will be most valuable if it is shaped by the administrators, successors, and leaders who will actually use it.
Founding members help determine
- 01The issues the community addresses first
- 02The knowledge we capture and how it is organized
- 03The experts and specialists we involve
- 04The resources, tools, and playbooks we build
Questions
What leaders ask us first
When does SIG National launch?
SIG National formally launches in January 2027. We are holding no-cost informational meetings now so leaders have time to understand the concept, ask questions, and decide whether it belongs in their plans for 2027.
What happens in an informational meeting?
It is online, lasts approximately one hour, and carries no obligation. We explain what we are building, introduce the experience behind it, and hear about the challenges you face and what would make this community genuinely useful to you. There is no expectation that you make a decision during the meeting.
What does membership cost?
Founding membership terms are being finalized with input from the leaders joining us first. We discuss them directly in the informational meeting so you can ask questions and see exactly what is included before deciding anything.
Is this only for administrators?
No. The community is built for administrators, their successors, and the TPAs who serve self-insured groups. Much of the value comes from having all three perspectives in the same room.
Will you tell us how to run our group?
No. Each fund has its own members, market, history, and regulatory environment. The purpose is to give SIG leaders better access to the accumulated experience of people who understand the model — and to trusted resources when specialized needs arise.
What does it mean to be a founding member?
The leaders who become involved first help determine the issues we address, the knowledge we capture, the experts we involve, and the resources we build. We have a clear vision, but the community will be most valuable if it is shaped by the people who will actually use it.
Next step
No cost. One hour. No obligation.
At this stage our purpose is simply to put SIG National on your radar as you begin thinking about 2027 — and to hear what would make it genuinely useful to you.
